This cleaning makeup brushes DIY might just be the best life hack I’ve found yet.
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever known how to wash my makeup brushes properly. 20+ years of wearing makeup and I’m still a hot mess. Literally.
Until now, that is. I recently learned of an amazing hack that I can’t keep to myself. In case you missed it a few months back, you can use Trader Joes Fruit & Vegetable Wash to clean your makeup brushes. Oh, and it really works.
Now, it must be noted that I gathered this completely non-scientific data through our friend Natasha from @traderjoeslist, so by no means is this a recommended use of this product. But girlfriend, it should be. It couldn’t be easier and leaves brushes soft and clean with minimal effort.
Any cleaning product that is safe to use on foods that you eat has got to be safe to use on tools that touch your face, right? Well that logic was enough for me to give it a go.
The method is simple: pour the cleaning solution into a small bowl. (I added a bit of warm water to the cleaning solution to help dissolve stuck on oil/makeup, but this is optional.) Swirl the brush around in the bowl of cleaner and then thoroughly rinse under warm water.
Depending on how dirty your brushes are (or embarrassingly filthy, like mine) you may need to repeat the process two or three times to get them thoroughly clean.
Pat them dry with a clean towel and then allow them to air dry completely. Voila! That’s it!
I used this DIY method for cleaning makeup brushes of all types (natural hair and synthetic) and it worked flawlessly for all of them. Huge shout out to Natasha for sharing her genius idea. This truly will be a game-changer once I have an excuse to wear makeup again.
